Overview:

Pharmacy costs are on the rise and are expected to continue on an upward trend as new drugs hit the market and utilization increases.   During this hour, you will learn about key cost drivers behind rising pharmacy trend and strategies for Health Plans to effectively manage prescription drug costs.

Course Objectives:

  • Review key drivers behind rising pharmacy trend
  • Explore the “drug pipeline” and the future of prescription drugs
  • Analyze drug utilization patterns in the US including a review the Opioid Epidemic
  • Learn specific strategies to effectively manage drug costs
  • Understand the balance of member disruption and cost-management

 

Zafeira Sarrimanolis

Zafeira Sarrimanolis, PharmD is a Clinical Consultant for MedCost.  She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Chemistry minor from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and her Doctor of Pharmacy from the UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.  As a Pharmacist, Zafeira helps MedCost clients navigate their Pharmacy Benefit Manager and identify opportunities for cost-savings in their company health plans.  She also works closely with the MedCost Care Management Team to ensure members are utilizing clinically-appropriate, safe and cost-effective medications throughout the continuum of care to manage their medical conditions.  Zafeira’s goal is to ensure MedCost clients’ covered members are being treated appropriately and safely, without the risk of exorbitantly high costs.  This is not only the most cost-effective strategy, but also results in members with healthier, happier lives.
